The Presbytery of Lindsay-Peterborough consists of 20 pastoral charges representing 27 congregations of The Presbyterian Church in Canada and is situated to the east and north east of Toronto, Ontario, partly along the shore of Lake Ontario, up into the heart of the Kawarthas region and extending over to Lake Simcoe.
Our Presbytery is centered around the two largest cities in the area, Peterborough and Lindsay. It covers around 6000 sq. miles, stretching from Campbellford in the east to Beaverton in the west, and from Bowmanville in the south to Bolsover in the north. In this area we have congregations with 35 ministers (active and retired), a lay missionary and 270 elders, serving some 3,000 members.
Presbytery is a ruling court of The Presbyterian Church in Canada and has the responsibility of oversight of all the congregations within our bounds. We meet in regular session 6 times a year, March, April, June, September, October and November at different locations. Presbytery is composed of an equal number of lay and clergy members and is an “open” court. Any of our church members and adherents, as well as members of the general public, are welcome to be present and observe.
We hope that our internet presence will help both newcomers to the church and seekers of faith learn more of what the Presbyterian Church in Canada is doing in this part of Ontario, both in terms of our separate congregations and our combined endeavours as part of the Body of Christ.
We also hope that this website will give the members and adherents of our various congregations a greater sense of connection with the wider church. Often as we work within our separate churches we tend to be unaware of what is happening in other congregations. So it is good that we have the opportunity to grow in our knowledge of what our fellow Presbyterians are doing in their congregations. Not only will this help us to be more supportive of each other but also to share knowledge and insight that will help all of our congregations grow and flourish.
